## ✨ Mastopexy

Mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure designed to correct ptosis (sagging) by raising and reshaping the breasts. This procedure involves removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to elevate the nipple and areola to a more youthful position on the breast mound. It does not primarily alter breast size, though it can be combined with augmentation or reduction procedures to achieve the patient’s desired contour and proportion.

The typical candidate for a mastopexy is an individual with breast tissue descent often caused by factors such as gravity, significant weight loss, aging, or pregnancy and breastfeeding. The technique chosen by the surgeon—which dictates the incision patterns—depends on the degree of correction needed. Incision patterns can range from around the areola (periareolar) for minor lift to an inverted 'T' or 'anchor' pattern for more substantial reshaping.

Recovery is a critical phase where adherence to post-operative guidelines is paramount for optimal results. Patients typically experience initial swelling and tightness, which gradually resolves over several months. While the procedure offers a significant improvement in breast shape and projection, the long-term maintenance of the lift is subject to the natural processes of aging and changes in body weight. Counseling on realistic expectations regarding scarring and final breast position is essential prior to the intervention.
